Raleigh Moonshine 531 - 'The Pink Thing'

Thanks Nick, I spent some time looking at your one when doing the pre-purchase research, it looks great.Do you know how the bottom bracket cable guide is fixed? Mine is missing....

Sorry it took me so long to reply. It has no screw, just a plastic stud that pops into the hole and prises out with a flat blade screwdriver.

(it is impossible to take a photo of this bike without making it look washed out even though it isn't :D )

Cheers.......Nick

Re:

Cool!

It it indeed good to see another one on here. Here's a link to mine, now long gone onto pastures new (and occcaionally missed, I admit). It was one a a tiny amount it seems that were not in gate size... ;)

Now where is that 19" 653 White Lightning :!:

Perfect! Thanks Nick, off to eBay now! My frame is faded in places, some areas are ok, I have been touching in the chipped paint....

Mynchiboy, thanks for the link will take a look :)

No worries chap :)

I meant to add that the paint doesn't look bad on yours?

It's pretty good thanks. The overall condition shows hardly any wear, the guy I bought it from said it had full xt on it, which seems a bit strange! The Sakae seat post was pretty marked up, it's not going on as it weighs nearly as much as the frame! I'm looking for a black 27.0mm seat post at the moment, not much on eBay so I might post in the wanted section...

A quick update on this:

All parts sourced, except for new bottom bracket and tyres. I will hopefully be building this up in the next few weeks or so once the remaining parts have arrived. The parts that I have chosen are not period correct, so there is no Deore DX, just what I thought would suit this particular build, bearing in mind I do of course want to ride the finished article as well :)

I will also have to wait for a dark night with plenty of cloud cover to allow me the opportunity of working with this frame without the pink burning a permanent impression on my retina.

I don't suppose anyone has any bottom bracket measurements?!

These are the plastic rivet things I was talking about today (not "rivnut" - that's something completely different) for holding the bb cable guide on

http://www.skiffy.com/docs/menufr.cfm?p ... country=uk

They do them for a good range of sizes, based on the diameter of the hole that you're putting it in.

Give Skiffy (Essentra) a call and see if you can get some "samples"...... ;)

EDIT: Just realised the link doesn't go to the page I want it to - search under plastic fixings/rivets/push in rivet

Re:

That's great Mart, many thanks. I will have a look through and see if they can send any 'samples' ;0

Aching a bit today, that was an epic ride yesterday!

Ahh....I thought that Simon had the cable guide but no plastic "pin" to fix it in place.

Those eBay jobbies look like they'll do the job nicely. :)
