Retro Newbie
hi.
i came on here and introduced myself a couple of weeks ago. i did say i had some stupid questions to ask, so.....
i have what i think is an old raleigh road bike, that was running 650c wheels. i have just bought a 650 front 700 rear pair of wheels for the bike, and am quite confodent they will fit ok. the rear wheel comes with a shimano 600 series 6 speed block, now the bike just had one cog at the crank, but could i change it fo a two speed setup at the front? would i be able to retain the origonal bottom bracket if i did? the current setup is a square taper fit, is that the norm? also at the back i hae one exra gear compared to what was on the bike when i got it, would i be able to keep the rear deraliuer?
i understand there are a lot of questions, and i probably havent provided enough info to answer them so please, don't flame me as i'm new and anymore info you need, just ask and ill try to answer them.

many thanks

craig

My understanding is this, but I am no expert.
Yes square taper fit is quite common and there are plenty of cranks out there that will fit.
It is hard to tell whether you can fit a double though as you obviously need a bit of extra room. Try and borrow a double to check. If you do go that route you will have to buy a front deralleur and changer so more expense.
You should be able to use the rear as its movement is dictated by the changer.
