If your using g or better your wi fi will not be a bottleneck.

For the sake of testing I would also always use a hard connection.

Look at Barneyballbags results, 802.11g could well be the bottleneck, and plenty of 802.11n networks rarely run at full speeds, throughput will likely vary with reception and placement.

Since I did that one last year, I redid the wiring. I use a powerline and noticed that the length between both sockets does make a difference.

Also, my ISP raised the upload speed and changed the maximum download limit to a "fair use" one (meaning that if I start using a lot more than the average for my subscription, they will cap my speed a bit on peak moments).
This basically means that I can download anywhere between 200 and 600 GB/month at full speed, and an unlimited amount of data at reduced speed.
