polishing off anodising

Yeah but if its a chainring when you re-ano it the steel bits will freak out/melt/explode....so I've been told.

If it ain't got any steel chainstops then yeah, caustic soda.....USE IT OUTSIDE else you'll end up like me and burn your lungs

If it has got steel chainstops....buy a silver one

No, just removing the blue anodising. The chainring is just what I'm after but blue doesn't do it for me!

Caustic Soda then....

tip sent me by someone on here (works a treat):

Buy Caustic soda from hardware store
Put a tablespoon in a small bowl of warm (not hot) water and stir
Dip item for about 10 seconds
Remove and rinse in fresh water, brush with soft brush (away from your face :!: )
Keep dipping/rinsing until colour is gone.

Polish with 800 grade Wet n Dry

Tips:
Get your rinse water ready in advance, have it next to your caustic bowl
Use marigolds (essential :!: :!: )
Work outside (essential :!: :!: )
Have something ready to retrieve part with (i've used pliers)


If you overdo it (leave it in too long) the item will go black but it WILL come off with 800 Wet n Dry.
