I've got a pair of mag 21's that have had the gold taken from the lower legs so they're currently a dull grey, is it possible to polish these up to any sort of decent finish or am I down the paint/anodise/powder coat route ?

Cheers

Yep, you can polish them up, Few different things you can use, Wet & Dry sandpaper (used wet with some soap), 600 grit then 1200 grit, you could use Scotchbrite pads, course, medium then fine, you could use Steel wool, i've also had success with normal Brillo soap pads used wet (one of these is the equivilent of 1200 Wet & Dry), once cleaned up using any of these you can go over them with Metal polish, Autosol works well, as does Brasso or T-cut (though these are less abrasive), finish them off with car wax to protect them.

They should polish up fine, but they'll need protecting as jimihendrix says 'cos they'll oxidise very quickly if left bare.

what ever you do though; don't use an electric sander or polisher on them, the dust is extremely flammable, so you don't want any sparks. ;)

Is that the gold colour but highly polished or is it the highly polished bare mag legs ?
Can't quite tell if there's a tint of gold or if it's just reflecting something.

Those are highly polished bare alloy ;)

Sure are .... ;) Bare as a babys bottom !!!

They do need a good hard wax polish mind and even then, once a month re-polish !!!

Looking sweet! If you use a mega fine wet 'n dry (2000grit+) then you effectively remove the micro scratches so it is less likely to oxidise so quickly because there are less places to oxide to biold up Try some car wax too as mentioned.
