Peugeot 653 Athena questions

26.6 seat tube on mine, I'm sure I read ages ago that someone had a 26.8 on theirs. I think I bought a 26.8 to start with and was pissed off because it was too big.

Not much help to you as it just confuses things. Sorry!

Can anyone else shed some light on this?

You may have to bite the bullet and buy a seat tube tool or borrow one or take the frame to your local bike shop.

Re:

Mine from 1990, 58 cm frame. Seat post 26.8, same as on their 753 frames of this size.

Rear spacing 127. I have a 753 with 126 spacing and I ride this with a 130 wheel: not a recommendation, just what I do. One of my favourite bikes, responsive on the steep little hills in the Howardian Hills just north of York. The 653 Athena lives on the turbo these days and getting more use than it should do at this time of year!

Good luck.

Re:

Thanks folks. I guess I will keep it period correct.

Strictly I should probably put Athena on it, since it says it on the frame and all..

But I could probably get C record easier.

Decisions, decisions

Was this the rather mint condition frame on eBay? If so then chapeau to you!!

I have one in not so good condition as that - 26.6mm seatpost.

Really? My 653 is 27.2. I saw the tubes come out of the box before Tom made it and I didn't think there were different seat tube sizes for the same tubing*. I also thought 753 was 27.0. Have I been led up a garden path?

Also, someone earlier said 653 frames have 753 rear triangles. (

). Are you sure?

(*It is quite possible I am wrong on this - it wouldn't be the first time. )

No, the Peugeot 653 Athena was made of 653 with the Athena group, I have a 653 Raleigh R A Moderne frame with a 27.2 seat tube so they do vary, strange
