Pace...where's it all going?

Neil yes i agree with most of what you say, basiclly the reason why its got a triple up front is because i got it cheap of a guy on here, but it will be getting changed for a double with bash guard. iv got a very small rear cassette on, biggest ring is 28, but going to change that to my Xt one i have when changing the front to a double.
As you say if money was never ending you could have what you want, but money quickly ends in my house so i have to have the best i can afford, id love a mint Kona Hei Hei or that new cotic Ti

As for the Pace I just don't think it's that's interesting...if I had money like that to buy a frame I'd be calling up Roberts to build something unique :D

But according to the website a hand built 853 fillet brazed Dogs Bolx frame from Roberts is going to set you back over a grand! and stray away from the normal jigs ie into 29er geometry and I bet its getting even more expensive.

So its comparing apples with oranges again.

But that aint that bad as 90% of Ti frames off the shelf are over a grand, you just need to bare in mind if its made to fit you like the Seven its only uniquie toyou, and im not sure what the resell value would be, although saying that if you had a frame built like that you would probably never want to selll it anywa

Gosh would it be worth his while for £500 notes, to custom make a steel frame blimey.... I can see why people do it for Ti frames and things, thats were the money is but to have a custom made steel frame for that is expensive to the customer and not really worth it for the builder surely

Its less than half the price of a Roberts Dogsbolx which in your previous post you said:

I dont imagine the actual tooling cost of a ti frame to be that much higher than steel, the jigs and tools will be similar to those used on a steel frame, what you pay for is the experience of working with a difficult material and the material its self.

Just a small snippet of info for ya.... Brant has got a project on the go using True Temper tubesets. I have a few of the new designs and things are looking good.

this guy hear will make u a very good steal frame to ur exact requirements for not a lot...about £500 hear in the UK...u can even see it being made if u ask nice.....http://www.daveyatescycles.co.uk/

Where does it say £500 on the Dave Yates web site?

ATB pricelist states for a fillet brazed 853 tubeset frame your looking at the princely sum of £899 of your finest english pounds. The cheapest atb frame he does is £650. Again these are standard wheel sizes and geos so again the extra steel in a 29er will probably bump the price up.

If the Pace frame was to cost over £900 then its dearer than a Niner SIR9 and a full £300 dearer than the RC104 its based on and in all likely hood would not sell

As an oldskool rider (ie real trails with proper hills) the need to shoulder a bike always ends up being more painful than it needs to be due to some poxy hose mount digging into your shoulder.

You're supposed to ride those hills not shoulder them ;)

On the topic of this Pace, I'm sure I've seen this frame with different stickers on it. Which as far as I'm concerned isn't a Pace at all.

 You have a big big job just walking some of these hills never mind riding them. Yesterday's Peaks Epic involved a fair bit of shouldering again.
Good day out, even one or two of those crappy Pace alloy frames turned up too.
