On balance, I still am not a fan of e-bikes (previously known as ‘I just don’t get E bikes’)

No pedal powered bicycle needs 4 pot calipers. Though if you like em ride em.
True.

But GRAVITY powered bikes do, I think.

10 mins descents we do in the summer are marked by startling brake fade, plus turns at the bottom of seemingly near vertical run-ins - which 4 pots counter nicely,...my profile picture shows the side of the valley we like inhabiting on our DH bikes....

I did say pedal powered. I'm not brave enough to need them.

I run Vintage Avid (not SRAM) BB7 brakes with metallic pads, and 203mm/180mm Shimano ICE alloy rotors. Jagwire Pro Elite Link segmented alloy cables for the flexible parts, and metal automotive hydraulic lines over the rest. Used to be called Full Metal Jacket. Before the ICE rotors the paint would blister off of the rear (SRAM) caliper from holding speed down hills. I didn't notice anything until I changed the pads. They worked just fine even when letting the smoke out of them.

You think 15-25mph headwinds are any different to a summers day in the UK?

Come ride in the Peak District UK in winter and your views will change on what is needed (on a normal bike)

You can try to justify it to yourself why you ‘need’ a powerful ebike. But in reality anyone of average fitness can ride in your conditions without issue.

At least when you crash your 1500W ebike you’ll get a suitable “Florida man ……” headline on the news. Any headline starting with those words never disappoints
