Old, small fox shock, odd mount, any better options??

Hi folks.

When I got the Raven I realised that the Air Vanilla wasn't the same shock that was stated in the catologue (Alps 5R) and it also feels a little bit tired so I was hoping that I could upgrade to something better. I soon realised that I had 2 problems:

1. The eye-to-eye length of the shock is only 145mm and that had the swingarm a pretty well max extension. I might just be able to wedge in a 150mm but I am not sure.

2. The front mount where it bolts to the frame is different to all the shocks I have seen on my Google/Ebay travels. Basically the frame has a post in the middle and the front of the shock bolts on either side. I have attached pics at the bottom.

I was hoping that I could get a shock with some form of adjustment/lockout but that seems unlikely, even remote locout but I think I am in dreamland! The sheer lack of size of the shock seems to play heavily against me as well as the mount.

I am pretty well a noob at rear shocks so any input would be gratefully received.

Thanks so far guys, is the frame end clamp not an unusual one then? I haven't seen a single shock advertised with a forked clamp like that. I will email Mojo and see what they say.

I got an email back from Mojo saying the shock was far too old and the rare 'clevis' clamp that the shock had on it has been stopped by Fox years ago. They said they may still be able to do a basic service on it.

I had looked at the Risse site but nothing stood out at the time so I went to Mojo first.

Now, armed with the term clevis, I googled raven clevis, saw a mtbr review page that again referred to Risse so looked in greater detail and I can get any of their air shock range specifically for that frame, I hadn't noticed the 'Shock Applications' page on there.

Currently trying to wangle the ex's dad in to bringing me back a Astro-5 or Terminator shock when he comes back from the states next month.

Well, for anyone that cares and just to add to the search database for the future.....I emailed Risse this morning asking what would be best for me based on my moxtly XC riding but love of fast downhills and air too and got this reply back:

Thanks for your e-mail. I would recommend the Astro-5 for your Super-V Raven frame. The Astro-5 is a beter choice due to your xc riding. The 5 position damping adjustment lever is very simple to use, so you can adjust the shock for XC or downhill riding very quickly. The Terminator is setup mostly for downhill riding, and the adjusters are for fine tuning the damping, and are a not as easy to adjust as the lever on the Astro-5.


We can ship to either Florida, or to the UK. Shipping to Florida via FedEx ground is $10.00, and takes 5-7 days. Shipping to the UK via US Global express mail is $34.00, and takes 5-15 days. I do not know how much duty or customs fees are, so if you can coordinate it with your people in Florida to bring back, that would be the least expensive for shipping.

Right, the shock turned up today, very nice, industrial-looking jobby. A certain very nice person at Risse who shall remain nameless, was very nice by 'cough' adjusting the shipping form value to the point where I only got charged £10 VAT, but a £14 parcel Farce admin fee... Haven't fitted it yet but will be trying it out tomorrow
