Bloody Metro engine.

Buick actually

6 cylinders of a Rover V8

Ner

Wrong, Tazio is right. Completely different engine with nothing in common and the myth that it is a cut down Buick originated from an article in CCC back in the 80's.
There were 2 Prototype 6R4 Metros built in 83-84. One did have a cut down Buick/ Rover (the other had a complete V8 in which stuck out of back), but the engine they eventually used in the Metro (and the Jag and this Tranny) was a 100% brand new design and was built around a bespoke block cast by the TWR foundry. Designed by Dave Wood, and called the V64V, it has more in common with the Cosworth DFV. It is completely different in every way from a Buick- it even has a different angle of the V.

So double Ner ;)

You made that up, thats not in my actually printed books from the time, non of this internet rubbish!

Ner.

Anyway, if you take the 6r4 hack into consideration, it still is a bloody metro engine.

Ner.

I don't give a monkeys arse what it says in books, I rebuilt a few V64V engines bitd ( they loved throwing their belts off several times a season) and i can 100% tell you that they are like chalk and cheese. Its like comparing a 1500 pre crossflow ford engine with a BDT. They may share some distant DNA but they are completely different in every respect.

There are very few motoring authors that actually do proper research, prefering to recycle any old garbage they read elsewhere. None of those journos will have rebuilt the engine in question, so don't take their word as gospel.
I agree that t'internet is even less accurate.

Its agreed then

I KNOW NOTHING!!!

At least we can be sure of that...

the LGF desk of knowledge is closed for refurbishment.

I'd love a Maloo, it's so good that there's one that someone built themselves around this county (got pics of it somewhere)

However, it's just a pity that Vauxhall didn't even try to bring the 'wagon' (estate) into the country... imagine that 'taking on the RS6' :D

There's a VXR-8 around Wakefield somewhere, I've seen it half-a-dozen times*

A few years ago, when they were first brought over, West Yorkshire Traffic Police had a Monaro on trial for a while :D

I'm told it used to empty the workshops & offices whenever it was started up, as you can well imagine (I see their Officers most days on a 'professional basis')

The day-to-day drivers loved it, but apparantly the bean-counters said "No!" (the poor spares situation at the time didn't help much either)

*And, an Ariel Atom too!, but just the standard one (another 'school-run dad' with an Exige has driven the Atom)
