Anyone bought any nice new kit? Or any tried and tested stuff worth recommending? Don't mind expensive if its good. I've a jacket thats outlasted 2 or 3 other cheaper ones.

I've just bought some pimpy Sidi road shoes  Time will tell if they're any good... feel nice & comfy so, the signs are good.

Also just got myself a Giro Ionos helmet. Not 100% sure the size is right yet :? Looks good though :D

Sidi Dominators are great shoes, last years and years. Mucho £££ but you get what you pay for.

Cheers guys but I'm a spesh shoes convert the body geometry stuff seems to suit me.

Anyone try howies stuff?

The ultimate in hard wearing jackets would probably be a Paramo, as favoured by real hardcore climbers. (Madmen - I hate heights.)

I've never spoken to anyone who did anything but gush about how great they are - the last person was a yachtie who had used the same one for ten years. They run warm, so not for a summer rain shower, but about 500% tougher and more breathable than Goretex or even Event. The fabric used is a sort of super wicking fabric that pulls water away from your body, so sweat for once isn't a problem. Not only that, but if you fall in a stream or what have you the clothes will dry you off! Plus you can fix a tear with ordinary thread and it won't be a problem the way it would be with a membrane based jacket.

The best Paramo for biking would probably be a Paramo Velez Adventure - that's what I'm getting when the autumn kicks in. Reasonable review of the older (hoodless) version:

- the bit about the jacket sucking sweat away from the guy's body so fast that it appeared as steam is my favourite!

Still, I suppose you could get the same look with a kagoule and some dry ice...

Agree on the Spesh BG shoes.

Howies...

Love the merino, it's awesome.

Also have a eight miler soft shell, which is showerproof (light showers) and packs down quite well

Their casual stuff is pretty good too, jeans last ages, T shirts & shirts are good quality

Some things do seem a tad pricey, but the stuff I have i feel is worth it.

They have frequent sales & stuff sells fast in the sales so you need to move fast to get what you want.

PF I'll have a look at the Paramo stuff :) I saw some of the climbing gear recently.

Andy B, as soon as I mentioned it I've noticed howies have either sold out or stopped there bike kit :?

I use LAB-GEAR stuff, it is Australian made Merino and can be found here http://www.lab-gear.com, it is classed (by themselves) as technical or urban clothing but they do a good range of cycling specific stuff. The designer is a keen cyclist who rides a San Andreas.

There items are quite reasonably priced, and wear well, I have worn there stuff for about 18 months and have not had any issues with it.

Cheers,

Roger
