Everyone seems obsessed these days with next day delivery. I couldn't give a monkeys. When retro bling disappears into the thieving jaws of a cut throat, cut rate courier I want to know ( as in the case of my disappeared wheels and ALSO my disappeared mech ) I can get the cash to get another.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE insure the stuff you post and b*ll*cks to the speed of postage. Use the money you'd blow on next day delivery to insure the gear instead by slowcoach mail.
 
yep - as long as its paid for by the buyer of course.

Ive sent some stuff out recently with the demands of insurance and "signed for" and its cost practically the items worth = pointlesss exercise in selling it.

I think the seller should stipulate what service the item will be sent out as unless the buyer wishes to pay extra for the service.
 
Who, technically, is liable for lost items?

I always assumed the sender, I have refunded for an item I sent which was lost and recently received a refund for some forks which never made it to me.

As the sender arranges the courier/postage and holds the receipt, it's up to them to bare the cost of a loss as they are the ones who have the contract with the carrier? :?

RM have a standard £35 'insurance' and for most couriers it's £50. Mind you, I've never tried to claim from either...

Need to name and shame really. I've used the regular cheapo courier services named here to send stuff to the UK andaround the world without issue.

Send a lot of stuff via RM also. Had the odd issue sending packages not-recorded (lesson learnt) but other than that....
 
If you send by Royal Mail Standard Parcels you get £100 of cover for a pound, which seems worth it.

For getting stuff sent here (Orkney) Standard Parcels offers the best service too, as couriers charge a fortune through surcharges, and deliver a cr@p service through their local agents, with stuff resting in dank holes in both Inverness and Kirkwall for few days on its journey. Standard Parcels takes 3 or 4 days, about the same as Parcelforce 48...

Same, I recently sent some Raceface Turbines offered insured postage as an additional extra. Buyer chose not to take it. Sods law the item was lost in the post and I gave a full refund to the buyer, so I was down on the cranks and out of pocket.

I felt I had to offer the refund really, but in that case why did I offer insured postage as an option? If I was going to refund any way...bah :(
 
Has anyone tried to claim a refund for a lost item. What's the process ?

I sent something standard post and I have a receipt that I sent the item and I was told at the PO it was insured up to £39.

The buyer says they haven't received it. How do the PO check whether or not it was delivered when it is standard delivery?

I don't have a receipt to prove the value of the item because it was second hand, but on the other hand the PO don't know what I sent so do I produce a different receipt ?
 
Having lost a load of stuff both ways recently (some of which was sent recorded) I pledged to send only recorded from now on (for anything worth more than £15.00). In my experience the claims process is designed to be convoluted and evasive (like the Rail service one) though, they dont want you to claim, and if you do, good luck.
 
well, if you're sending items by Royal Mail Special Delivery then it's a non-issue as it's guaranteed next day and insured, by default, for £500.

i wouldn't use any other service to be honest.
