Has anyone tried to claim a refund for a lost item. What's the process ?

I sent something standard post and I have a receipt that I sent the item and I was told at the PO it was insured up to £39.

The buyer says they haven't received it. How do the PO check whether or not it was delivered when it is standard delivery?

I don't have a receipt to prove the value of the item because it was second hand, but on the other hand the PO don't know what I sent so do I produce a different receipt ?

I've claimed three times over three years and have received a refund with proof of the items 'worth'. This is easy for an eBay item but otherwise a Paypal or bank receipt and copy of advert. Hasn't always been quick and they don't refund the actual cost of posting so worth factoring in. Oh yes, and had a proof of posting in each case.

Separately but at not too much of a tangent, I'll always send Recorded Delivery when selling on eBay as it's too easy otherwise for an unscrupulous buyer to receive the item, claim a refund from Paypal and you're scuppered.

Everyone seems obsessed these days with next day delivery. I couldn't give a monkeys. When retro bling disappears into the thieving jaws of a cut throat, cut rate courier I want to know ( as in the case of my disappeared wheels and ALSO my disappeared mech ) I can get the cash to get another.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE insure the stuff you post and b*ll*cks to the speed of postage. Use the money you'd blow on next day delivery to insure the gear instead by slowcoach mail.

Always best. As i lost my passport. :( So now their are two of me out there

Hope you get your stuff sorted

As for naming and shaming...

Royal Mail Parcel Post: FARKING BRILLIANT. Often slow and usually left at the local sorting office when the stealth Ninja postie doesn't hear me racing down the stairs for his alloted 2 second wait. Insurance is god and cheap too.

Fedex: not the sharpest tools in the box. Often posted next door and the depot for pick ups is on Mars.

Parcel FArce: thieving untrustable usless w@nkers. If it ain't stolen it's damaged when the scumbags pop open the packaging to see if anything is worth nicking inside.

agreed.

Recorded delivery for small items and parcel2go for larger.

Parcelfarce or a joke. Everything received and delivered has had some sort of damage or delay.

for claims download the form from parcelforce/royalmail. Print out ebay listing or paypal payment slip. Include your postage receipt.

Then sit and wait for 2 months or more.

make a photocopy of what you send to claim

you'll only get the postage back if the item was delayed. Eg 24 hour delivery ending up been a 168 hour delivery.

I found the parcel2go collection service pretty impressive- frame posted in a big box for 7 quid colelcted and delivered next day is pretty awesome!
