n00b chain dropping to granny cog question....

I think I know the answer, but I'm too lazy/tried to check... so:

I've recently been riding a cheap SingleTrack 930 I got off ebay. When I'm in the middle ring and a low gear for a hill when I put hill climbing presure on it slips to the granny cog.

what do i need:

new chain?
set up the front mech better?
something else?

Under first past the post system, I vote for the middle of your 3 options! After 5 May there should be alternatives!

tighten up the front mech cable. does wonders for shifting
