I can get how you feel about recovering from surgery, I destroyed tib/fib with a spiral fracture 3 years ago in a stumble on uneven ground. Came out of surgery with a rather fetching titanium bar that looks great on X-rays I'm now 100% recovered, fitter and faster than before injury, thanks to riding. While I was laid up in cast and NWB for about 2 months I was getting pretty desperate for some freedom and the open road!
To my eyes that wheel bearing looks like it'll live for a good few rides. Personally I'd repack and ride but would plan to dismantle it in 6 months or so and recheck, rear wheel bearings will take a lot of stick if you are big.
I don't have a tool for removing fork cups, usuall break it off the taper with a super sharp chisel underneath and work round with light hammer blows slowly, as with most things I do, probably not the best way - but gets it done. Or you could always mask it up and paint round...
having a think about nech and shifter brake levers
mech and QR all seen betterdays i think and these are for replacement left brake control lot of play and end broken and very scraped
can the levers be replaced alone as rest of shifter looks ok and with bit of TLC will prob scub up ok?
gonna strip mechs and completely degrease polish and see what i have
No fractures there. They are profiled teeth designed to aid shifting. At least one of the teeth is bent inwards though. Easily remedied by bending it back with an adjustable spanner.
The Altus chainset is a later addition to the bike. To be honest it's a downgrade in some respects especially as the chainrings are riveted rather than bolted on. As such they are not individually replaceable.
I'd look for a 400LX chainset to replace what you currently have.
More stripping down today, crankset off left side bb cover removed BB tapped out but right side cover threads partially budged then sheared will post pics l8r my neighbour thinks he can sort in am fingers crossed
