so back in 1990, my used Muddy fox seeker was stolen after i kind of modelled it on the 1991 Alu Pro with a repaint etc, although it was a basic paint job, 4 locks that bike had on it when it was stolen!

anyway, My parents came to the rescue with insurance and i bought the 1991 Muddy Fox Alu Pro, did loads of miles on it including a 100 mile day on the Isle of Wight with friends, by then i'd upgraded to some XT from Dx, mag 20's etc.

a few years ago i went looking for a seeker to replace the stroeln one, ewneded upo with a courier comp from 1990, then last year i found an actual seeker, then recently decided to look for the Alu Pro so posted a wanted advert on here, you guys came up trumps with this frame set, it is the same frame, it's definitley been repainted and the stickers are very wrong but it is the right frame and fork and stem, it could be a later frame but back then they used frames for a couple of years, either way it's close enough!

today it went off for paint a long with a few other bits for a friend, going original white.

i also bought this as a doner bike, LX/DX/XT mix, the Alu Pro should be all DX but i'm not going exact factory spec, frankly it's too much hassle, the hubs are LX and it good mechanical condition, the brakes and chainset are LX and look so silimilar they will do fine, the shifters are XT thumbies which i upgraded to back in the day, the front mech is XT but i don't think it'll fit, the rear mech is DX, so the spec is near enough for me, and it's all original to this bike, i checked the chain wear, not even worn in!

the tyres were perished and the rims were awful and rough looking so i got a pair ofd the same rims i used on the Seeker build and rebuilt them, shod them with of course panaracer smoke and dart, used blue alloy nipples which should pic up the blue of the stickers when it's rebuilt.

ok so today i got this pic from Matt at the Powdershack, he was checking something about the stickers before the laquer goes on, i'm really excited about this one!

also i picked up another doner bike, that is full dx and it's mint so now i have a much more accurate groupset, all though i have already built the wheels with LX hub so they can stay!

ok, so i got the frame back today, frustratingly the second box with the fork in (as well as other stuff for a customer) is due tomorrow, so as it was quiet i decided to get as much as i could done. i also picked up another doner bike which had a bunch more DX parts on it. so i'm gonna go as much DX as possible, although i had already built the wheels with some LX hubs i had, i might change them down the line, the DX sti units i have the Left gear shifter doesn't work but i do have some XT thumbshifters which will do, that said i have a proflex 752 that has DX thumbies on it so i might swap them over. will decide in the next day or so.

i also found this pic on the Mountain Bike Museum, it was useful as i think this bike is pretty original and i was having dilemas about whether to use low-pro or non low-pro brakes, this pic shows non low-pro and i have both so Non low-pro it is!

no messing about! as soon as the box with the fork got here the MF was back in the work stand!

so i have used the DX shifters from the Proflex, that has been played with as well so it now has XT thumbshifters and rear mech, so the Muddy Fox is pretty catalogue accurate now. will fit some DX hubs at some point, and the rims are modern double wall with a machined surface so the brakes are ok, need some nicer pads for the front brake as they are basic, oh the only other thing is it has a modern BB., i had a DX bb but i's for a 68mm shell and the MF has a 73mm shell.

see pics!
