Re:

Starting the build of something proper retro. Slack angled 80's frame with chainstay u-brake....check, 21.1mm steerer'd forks with bullmoose bars.....check, other low end period correct stuff including suntour thumbies....check. Decent paint job....er...no, must sort out that 'orrible rattlecan and rust paint job
Very much a work in progress but its months to go....fatal last words

Have you been looking over my fence?

Thinkingk canti front with cable disc and canti combo rear with one or two levers. Is this possible?

I remember martin having something like this

Re:

It is possible as you can get levers that can pull two cables simultaneously, usually found as adaptions for disabled riders. Problem is both brakes would either need to be canti or vee brake pull as you cant have a cable disc with vee brake cable pull and a cantilever brake pull on the same lever as they pull differing amounts of cable. You can get road bike cable pull discs that use the same cable pull as a canti brake though.

I am thinking of mounting a rear disc to the old bike I'm bringing as I have never got on with U-brakes and it removes the u-brake mud clearance issue.

Re: Call to arms - Mayhem 2017 (16/17/18 June)

Back to something more conventional then. :(

Re:

You could go proper retro and have a rear drum brake for decent all weather braking. There are no down hills long enough at mayhem to cook a drum brake into brake fade mode. Sturmey Archer in its modern guise do a freehub with drum brake these days and a more traditional screw on freewheel drum brake hub.
