Modified Bontrager race

What do you think of modified frames?
I've added a disk mount to this frame does that enhance the frames life or does it detract from it's old school status. Either way it's given the frame a new lease of life.

If it means it gets ridden more then I'm all for it....that after all is the point of it all..to ride !

Mines got the same modification but goes further by having the canti bosses removed. Makes for an ideal singlespeed. It will however limit its selling potential. How many people will want a disc specific frame with 1" headset, designed for short travel forks?
Suits me fine though ;)

Well said, and you can remove the mounts and you are back to square one.

I asked Keith and he said the only reason he didn't put on disc mounts was that there weren't disc brakes around. He was all for people retro-fitting mounts to his frames. Personally, to stay in the Bonty spirit, I'd fit the lightest, smallest discs going ( preferably XTR ).

be careful w/ those mounts. it doesn't look like the welder added a reinforcment bar from the chainstay to the seat stay. The frame was not enginered for discs, so it probably cant handel the uneven load that will be placed on the stays. I've seen a lot of independents that had his modification done crack. just something to look out for.

Hope XC4 with 130mm rotor?
Mine doesn't have the bracing strut either, but i'm not worried :D

Discs

I'm all for it. Definitely. How many times have you bought a bike and changed the kit on it? be it c/set, forks, mechs whatever. why not add a disc mount? I had disc tabs put on my '95 Kilauea and its a more capable bike now. 13 years on and i'm still thrashing it
