Marzocchi xc600 forks losing pressure, cause?

Hi all.

I recently found a Kona Sex One mountain bike and have been working on restoring it.

Most problems have been solved but the one thing I'm clueless about is the forks losing pressure. They had no restistance when I found it, I investigated and found 2 air nozzles. I did some research and put some air in them with a compressor and it rode fine for about an hour before I noticed the forks dropping again. I've read up on the forks and know they have oil in as well, however I don't know how to checkthe oil level. Sadly I cant find any YouTube vids on servicing these forks.

Any tips on how to proceed or shall I go to a shop and get them serviced?

Cheers.

Probably need new seals as they don't last forever, while they are apart the oil will have to be replaced anyway.

Re:

Could try replacing the schrader valve cores as that'll be the cheapest option and doesn't require taking the fork apart.
Failing that you can get rebuild kits with all seals. The UK servce centre will still service these old forks.

Hi

Thanks for your replies, where can the rebuild kits be purchased from?

I'd like to do as much of the work on the bike myself if I can, got a feeling this may prove to be beyond me though.

Re:

Pump them up to a high pressure.
Get soapy water in a hand spay and spray the valves and seals and see where the leak is coming from. Go from there.

Check this blog out. Not your exact fork but the DH3 is pretty much the same. http://marzocchiworkshop.blogspot.co.uk ... 3-xcr.html

That's great, thanks for your help.

That's a really helpful site, at least I have the manual now.

I've had a quote of £50 to get the forks serviced so I might go with that, I think it's beyond my abilities to self service sadly.

The guy said I could but newer modern forks for that price but the Sex One is almost 100% original and I want to keep it that way.
