MacRetro chat and rides thread

right..... so I bought another bike frame..... mainly on the basis of the cool colour

I need another steel bike like a hole in the head and have been scratching my head on what to do with it :?

I did see this bike on the net and thought it looked very cool and could be an excuse to build it, ZZ did something similar and wondered how it worked out mate?

What do you think folks?

Ach, hang it up and come back to it later when inspiration strikes - don't just build it for the sake of...

Nice paint job and what are the forks? Glad you saw that before I did :)

I use the Rockhopper for nipping up and around town, it's fine with the drops and skinnies, definitely road only though. I've got no idea how those cyclo-x loons manage offroad with drops. Those 'halfway-house bars' seem like a pretty good compromise - not drops, but not flats - they definitely weren't holding Kaiser back on the C2C or that day at Craufurdland.

Aye, that's it, only difference is the big set of horrible pedals that are on it so I can pedal around town in my Italian loafers while sipping a skinny mocca latte.

Decals and paint are a bit shagged tbh, still takes a good picture but not so pretty in the flesh.

gazz google rock combo for some inspiration. The problem with regular drops is the well...drop it can be next to useless if your hands are down around the fork crown. Surely you have to go for the origin8 gary's, like mine.

Drops dont really work on mtb's, better with a purpose built 26" wheeled tourer like a Thorn Sherpa or a Dawes Sardar. If you do go ahead, Kaiser comment on the drops is valid, moustache bars are good as well.
I'd say build up as a mtb as it was intended.
Also I'd say STOP buying bikes you dont need Gazz and I say this as a person who is reducing my collection because this madness has got to be controlled.............WOOOHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA !!!!
