MacRetro chat and rides thread

It's the funny fella on the top tube, he pushes you on to do things you cannot normally do. Youse will have to keep him on check!

As for the brakes, I would never fit Vbrakes on a Yo. Cantis will be fine when the pads and rims bed in.

Mind you on a wicked it's perfectly acceptable :?:

I don't know, some people, do as I say not as I do

blah blah blah, stop trying to change the subject.....

this place is mental- almost kill yourself going down hill and it must be the pads needing bedding in or the rims anything to avoid the obvious conclusion that cantis over a hard day will let you down, no matter how well you set them up, esp if you are pushing it as I'm sure Si was doing, maybe some folk round here go slow enough to stay within cati's limits :?:

Trying to build a "proper" full on retro that you intend to ride all the time and then holding the bike back by insisting on crap brakes is crazy, most of the hard nosed fat cog punters run v's on there very well used stead's for good reason- they want to let the bike fly.

And given we all swapped them when v's came along and the same again when discs appeared it is pointless trying to argue they are "great", if you want a proper rider- v's or disc or if you want a garage queen-cantis, Simple as. You know kaiser since you have already got them on your rider

I can see your point but......
My last Yo had M900 cantis, yellow coolstops and well run in Mavic rims and the brakes were more than adequate. The SAB had a Rim Crusher canti on the back with coolstops and was as good as any V and some disc set ups.
At the end of the day its about friction. Once those rims have lost that anodizing and the new pads have lost the glaze they will start to bite and normal service will be resumed.

Got a good afternoon in up the Pentlands. 1 puncture (first in yonks, but my own fault for not getting the front end up and over those stone culverts), 1 fall on the slippy weir (wet arse but no damage), and 1 fell runner who seemed to think the track I was pushing my bike up wasn't suitable for riding down - if he'd stopped to chat I would have agreed.

And for what it's worth, Canti's for me for Keilder.

Gazz, I've got some SS spacers (silvery ally, should polish up well) and some of those wee cable donuts too. I'll stick 'em in the post for ya this week.
