Brilliant !!!!
I will be on Arran and have no problem about repainting the frame, although it wont be a good finnish, lack patience for that, probably plasticote white.

Cheers

Velo

White you say - that's handy
23.5 inches centre of BB to top.
Most of the surface rust was the rear triangle - see rubbed areas, but the remainder of frame should come up fine with T-cut and polish :P I'll need to remove the sachs huret stuff tho' - otherwise its yours. Headtube BSA is a sticker BTW, not metal badge, curses.
God I'm in a generous mood today :!:

I've been thinking about buying a road bike for a while, was looking at a new carerra vanquish from halfords though.

Would consider a retro machine if i could find my size, (48-50cm) looked for a while on E-bay etc and they all seem to be garden gates or even bigger

Mark unless your drawn to the retro look, a modern is hard to beat on performance. Really depends what you want to use it for.

That Philips is nice and very tempting as it look's like it's my size but i do admit, though i like retro MTB's i'd prefer a modern road bike so i'll sit on the fence for now

Changing the subject a bit mocked up the drive train on the bomber and found the Shimano chain does'nt work with the sprocket on the coaster hub, teeth on the hub are far too big, what's the best solution for this ?, get a chainring and chain to suit the hub or a new sprocket compatable with the Shimano chain ? (if such a thing exists, sprocket is a snap ring type)

At least i got the hub to fit the frame and the chain line wont be too bad :)

Rear sprocket is 1/8th pitch specific ie. what you find on SS sit up and beg roadsters or BMX bikes. Either get some BMX chain, it'll be fine on the front chainring or get a 3/32nd pitch sprocket for a Sturmey Archer hub, these are available fro SJScycles or any SA hub dealer.

Mr Panda,

The BSA looks brilliant, all I have to do is respray the stays and polish 8)

Sorry Dr S, no £25 for you but I'll keep you in mind as I may have a frame in need of a future powder coat.

Decided I'll stay retro with spec, Suntour band on shifters, either Suntour or Shimano front and rear mechs, 54/42 front chainrings 14-28 5 speed freewheel, wheels as yet to be built on possibly Maillard hubs, Continental or Michelin tyres, Mafac brake levers and Mafac or Weinman centre pull brakes, Black cork tape on possibly randoneur bars (slight back & up sweep touring bar very comfy). Might replace headset with something steel and italian but B/B will be cartridge likely shimano.

None of above set in stone but gives idea of what I'm aiming for :D

I'm going to be slower than the modern boys but should be comfy over distance and roadside fixes are easier.

Cheers

Kaiser, The Edinburgh event starts and finishes in my home town of Bonnyrigg and includes loads of riding I've done before, great scenery and great cycling, unfortunately too soon for any trainning regime and the day before we do Ae.

Cumbrian Sportive looks great too but at 105 miles is way beyond my stamina level, drove through most of that scenery and through Brampton on my way home from Dalby.

The 50mile option on the tweeddale event would be good, also part of my old stomping ground.

One I fancy is the one day 50 mile Cairngorms challenge, we could get some of the northern boys involved in that one and the cycling round there is a joy :D

I need to get some trainning in but the ME is always sitting waiting to mug me :(

I have just remembered that I already have a beat up old Raleigh Royale frame in my shed which I could get roadworthy for some practice rides but its a wee bit small for me.

Dark side is calling........................
