MacRetro chat and rides thread

surplus road stuff!

I have a couple of REALLY BASIC roadies which I'm looking to get rid of.

One is this: http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=66067.

Also a similar sized, 21" ish, West German made, Rudi Altig badged, 10 speeder. Can put up pic if interested. Both the above are useable and the Rudi was my Arran bike (kept @ mum in laws house) until recently. Too small for me. Both cosmetically challenged but saveable with a little work. If you speak nicely to me we could be talking KARMA here.

Velo - I also have a beaten up 23/24" BSA frame which i was going to repaint, but have now just decided to stick with my Bianchi for road rides. Too many mtbs taking up too much room
Might also have some non-period bits to fit to it.

Note - we are talking rough and running here. Skip queens rather than garage queens 8)

Mr Panda you star !

Just realised I cannot afford anything currently on fleabay and was thus thinking of building a 'chaser' as opposed to a racer ie a mtb with high gears and skinny tyres which means you always have to play catch up with the 700c boys.

I have wheels, gears, chainset etc but no frame !

What do you want for the BSA factoring in postage of course :D.

I do not mind scruffy, as you've said before Patina is good.

Could poss hand it over if we're both at Arran? £ not an issue :D

It really would need paint or at least touch ups as i'd started to remove the existing in places. Will check size and get you a pic later.
Complete with solid metal headbadge 8)

BTW - Cairngorm sportif I think is a two day event, with choice of route length up to 100miles .

Think also you can do one day only option.

http://www.cyclecairngorms.org/

Its organised by the same folk that do the corrieyairack event.

Brilliant !!!!
I will be on Arran and have no problem about repainting the frame, although it wont be a good finnish, lack patience for that, probably plasticote white.

Cheers

I've been thinking about buying a road bike for a while, was looking at a new carerra vanquish from halfords though.

Would consider a retro machine if i could find my size, (48-50cm) looked for a while on E-bay etc and they all seem to be garden gates or even bigger

Mark unless your drawn to the retro look, a modern is hard to beat on performance. Really depends what you want to use it for.

Kaisers right, if you want 2009 TDF performance you need new bike technology.

I just like simplicity and machinery that takes me back to my youth, money no object it would be a late 90's Lemond or a Bianchi in Celeste blue :D

Might fit my Campag Xenon bits to the BSA if I can.

Dear me I must be a closet roadie, the dark side awaits

Well even if your not after TdF performance, the modern bike even the budget ones hold many advantages over the retro steed.
