MacRetro chat and rides thread

Got round it fine - the corrieyairack that is. Thoroughly recommended day out :D Only fell off once when 1" Pace forks couldn't deal with terrain. Soft landing  Go for it next year - oh yes. Much fit tottie present

Explosif - pics will follow. You will laff.

Today I've been a wee bit unwell with my ME so no riding today.

However went for a wee drive down the coast in the early afternoon and then home for some TV watching. The common link though was road bikes going fast every where :D

I feel a road bike coming on, though in my case it'll be 70's lugged steel affair but the need for tarmac speed is definitely affecting me.

Loving TDF on tv, unusual for me but i think my tastes are evolving or regressing back to my touring bike days. Love to slog around some of those pyrenees sections though obviously not at race pace.

David aka theKen how is your road bike project coming along ?

Also who in MacRetro land has got a road bike and if so what ?

Cheers All

Me :D 3 road bikes: 2 Specialized and a steel fixed wheel. Was out on the roadbike a couple of weeks back and forgot how much fun it was. Do you fancy doing a sportive or 2 ?

Not clear what a Sportif is but if its an audax style thing then possibly not although could work up to a 100km. Fancy a TT or a hill climb though but also just getting out on a training run would be cool. I do need to get a road bike first though as my entire fleet bar the recumbent are mtb based. Ideally looking for a 23 inch or more frame, 25" would be best, fancy either a 70's to early 80's Raleigh or Peugeot.

ME will still get in the road but I find covering distance very satisfying. High point from the past was 85 plus miles in a day and 400miles in a week long tour including the Hartside pass over the pennines. I wish I could get that fit again.

Arran would be great for a circuit in the Autumn maybe :D

Roadie

Hi Velo
Hope your feeling a bit better soon.
I am always up for a road ride. I have my Merckx corsa extra as seen here:

I have been a roadie for a lot longer than a MTBer. When I came to Europe all I arrived with was a backpack and my racer.
Maybe we should have a macretro road ride, Arran might be the place as I am sure Mr Panda asked about it before.

Have been quiet on here due to work being very busy.

Jamie

Velo a sportive is an event without a mass start and emphasis on participation. Its also timed and unlike Audax does not have cap on the faster riders. You can either go for it or toddle along, most events have a variety of distances too.

Jamie I see theres a cairngorms sportive.

I've been thinking about buying a road bike for a while, was looking at a new carerra vanquish from halfords though.

Would consider a retro machine if i could find my size, (48-50cm) looked for a while on E-bay etc and they all seem to be garden gates or even bigger

mmmm looks like a road bike section of MacRetro developing here :D

Mark, sounds to me that your after the easier to obtain size bikes, try getting anything over 23", the most common sizes do seem to be around the 21-22".

Nowt wrong with a halfords special, I quite like numerous cheapo modern road bikes and Kaiser I believe has vaguely modern road kit I believe.

How long is the Cairngorm Sportive ?
