MacRetro chat and rides thread

Weekend

Hi all
Quiet weekend up here, doing the usual chores both here and getting things sorted for work getting busy.
Noticed yesterday that Heathers 98 Stumpy had a flat tyre, so sorted that and took it for a ride. Just a short one round the woods and shore near home, very tame and sedate but it was a gloriuos afternoon. So good in fact I went home and grabbed my 88 Stumpy and went back round the loop to compare them, well, I just love riding it but thought I may as well compare them.
When I changed over to my older one it felt immediately 'relaxed' compared to the later model, geometry as well as position with the old style high lift stem etc. No urgency like the later model and even when pushed didnt get twitchy. On the old model I could go as fast, if not faster and yet felt like I was just cruising. This feeling of 'security' on the older one could have been because I ride it more than anything else, or because it fits perfectly, feels instantly set up with everything falling to hand regardless of what I have been riding previously.
I would even go as far to say its the best all round bike I have ever ridden, whether retro or modern. I can ride in snow, sun, mud any manner of shite and I dont think I have ever hoped off it without a grin.
heres a couple of pics:

Anyway, today had some work to sort so no riding, maybe later after I get the dogs out on the way home.
Hope everyone had a decent one and the weather was kind.

I am weird, with the Trek set up in SS mode and one SS race to its name it should be the automatic choice for a Sunday run. Not my choice though, oh no, I rebuild the Frankenbike yet again in full rigid SS mode hit the trail.

Typical, the half ton Frankenbike handles better than the Trek, encourages me to do 15 miles of single track, dirt road and unclassified tarmac uphill and down dale flat out with a stupid grin on my face. I should have taken it to Dalby instead of the Trek, it really does handle better for no known reason  :?

I will fit it with fatter 2.3" wide tyres on payday though, other than that its great.

As for Jamie's ancient stumpy, yes that late 80's geometry is good, my similar aged hardrock just seems unflustered if not particularly hurried in its approach to the trails.

I agree with the sentiments of jamie, the stumpie frame is a real class act, I'm loving my ss stumpie and it looks the dogs too. What exactly is the prob/s Kaisers?

Stumbled apon some fantastic trails literally on my doorstep this afternoon- about 2 miles from my front door is 8km of technical singletrack just been finished by the lads and lasses of walkers cycles- it is classified as black but very similar in character to drumlanrig- lots of roots and very tight twisty trails 8)

Was speaking to two guys who help build the trails and they tell me that It will get some a fun park section and eventually they will start charging but if anyone wants to swing by I will take you round. Only went over the bars once however I did have an issue with my very comfy carbon seatpost

Hit a big drop off to fast and my arse whalloped the seat and then there was a feckin big snap

Lucky I stayed in the pedals or else I would be typing this with a high pitch

Does anyone know if this is part of the carbon experiance or should I get it sent off to the manufacturer and kick up a stink?

road bike came out today for a pootle. blew the tyres up and realised it hasn't turned a wheel since the fred whitton in 08  anyway wee blast up to largs cleared the cobwebs and I forgot how much fun it is :) I commute on the fixed wheel but sometimes a blast with gears is better........or maybe just different in a nice way :P . And I reckon the stumpy is definitely for the chop :(

 close one for the knackers old boy. its not a roadie post is it? who is the manufacturer?

not sure I know the difference- was bought off a chap from here so suppose it is a Mountain bike one- promax I think, halfrauds do them I think, it was well in the tube so think I will send it back to them- made a bit of a long ride home- good work out for the quads.

id be surprised if you get a new one . warranty departments will try and find any reason not to .

i know of a broken frame refused warranty based on the angle of the seat implying dirt jumping use

still at least it didnt go up ya bum

aye give it a shot but you might find the warranty died when ownership changed, get a thomson, you know you want to  reminds me of an old latin phrase : bewaricus cheapio carbonio ya bamicus

my dad's fav. was concretus manurus

You have got to get your bum up to this new trail kaiser- is really great- would recommend some front bounce as it is a bit bumpy

Gaz's trails

So when are we meeting at Gaz's for a sample of these new trails?
Even if they dont warranty the post send it back and tell them ' as it barely missed yours, they can stick it up theirs' Though, do arses have arses? :?
