I have been reading the replies since yesterday and I say this:;

The people who are mainly complaining are the people who are sitiing around all day typing remarks on this topic

And as for the war yes an absolute waste of money and you can blame labour for that ;)

I just think that some people think they are too good for some jobs,If I really needed a job I would do anything, and have done in the past.

You have to contribute to your local community end of subject, you can not just take take take,I am not saying that all claimants do this, and I know several people who are legitimately claiming a bit of help.

I know this though if it carrys on as is we will end up thoroughly bankrupt ...shame really the most powerful nation and empire in the world turned in to a haven for the idle....its disgusting. :x

Have to agree with you completely there, we spend 192 billion on the benefits system, this has to be cut, end if, there is no argument against this. People need to get back into work routines, it is beneficial for society, and themselves (proven to beat depression) but I want ot hear and see the government use money saved for more training courses, more adult courses etc, we can tell them and force them to do community type work, but we must also arm them with the skills to better their lives.

Yes more adult education schemes are needed as I wanted to retrain recently and it would have cost me an absolute fortune.....lap dancing courses are quite pricey you know

Yep I agree and for the past couple of years I have personally been struggling through further education, the aim being to change hoplessness into something useful where I may employ my natural skills, as all through my life work has been like trying to bang a square peg into a round hole. Of course I now know the reason for that, higher education revealed the problem and it has a name, but alas with that on my record, it makes me kind of unemployable to many, but my way is my own way, my own business where my values reign supreme, attention to detail and customer service and that is not the customer service I experienced in the past, do as little as possible to get the custmers money then forget them quickly afterwards.

But I do agree long term unemployed should be doing some work discipline as it is very true the longer one is unemployed, the harder it is to get back to work. The thing I disagree with, is the manner in which it has been proposed as it very much comes across as this current policy is a punishment for the unemployed for having the audacity to be unemployed, it feels like an act of vengeance. Ironic really that Cameroon is saying such things when it was a pm of his own party that smashed the industry that was traditional British industry, you know that thing that propelled the empire.

A lot of those whom I know who are unemployed are over forty, fifty in some cases and all of them ex tradesmen, tool fitters, machinists engineers all skills that were highly prized now on the scrap heap along with the skilled. I even know a person very local who is currently sofa surfing and he has a masters degree in history, ex falklands soldier who nobody wants to employ.

I think you are taking it too personally,If you have "learning difficulties" then set your sights lower, there are jobs out there like farm labour work etc.which require no learning capabilities at all,but you seem to be able to string a sentence together so you can hardly be the village idiot now can you :?:

I think you may be agoraphobic as you spend to much time posting up on here to tell me that you are actively seeking work or willing to do anything to improve your lot.

I am having organic chicken for my evening meal today, you turned your nose up at the steak yesterday perhaps you prefer chicken...your welcome to come and join us if you wish.....my car needs cleaning and there is a fiver in it for you if you like

Wow this is all a bit depressing. Which reminds me of the time I was unemployed and had the misfortune to have to visit a job centre. It was a horrible place and a visit I would not wish on anyone. It was so bad I couldn't bring myself to stay and submit a claim.

I know nothing of this new scheme but hope that in the end it will get people active and out and about cleaning up and bettering their own communities, perhaps giving them a sense of pride and aspiration towards a better life.

I hope so anyway because my neighbourhood is a right state and I have no idea where my council tax goes frankly.

Best not get me started on where my council tax goes....mainly to keep norwich looking nice as far as I know

things that have changed since i last looked for work,

most if not all companies post jobs on their website, when asking instore or on site i just get told to have a look at the website. therefor encouriging me to sit at home on my pc.

angencies have taken over in almost all areas of employment. skimming their share of the top so firms can take advantage of casual staff. the jobs i worked 5/10 years ago pay half the wage today and use angencies.

most jobs require a driving licence even if your not required to drive, employers dont consider puplic transport or cycle a viable way of getting to work.

the amount of people applying for every job makes it an employers market

evey job asks for experience, obviously this is normall but if ive worked all my life in one area where there is no work how do i gain experience elsewhere

and if ive paid my way all this time and contrubited to other people who are unemployed am i not entitled to some help when i need it?

No one is disputing that we should all be entitled to help "when we need it" but people who freeload their way through life are unnecesary and contribute nothing, the original thread was discussing the fact that said freeloaders should have to go to work in their local community and not sit at home drinking tea or less savoury liquids, watching jeremy kyle,or appearing on it most likely,Nothing wrong with that plan ;) Long live Cameron :D

You've been robbed. ;)

So apart from those who have posted their clearly stated support for this scheme on the grounds that some, if not all of the unemployed deserve too be treat in ways previously reserved for criminals, Does anyone seriously think these sort of schemes are likely to actually make any difference?

They might give some satisfaction to those who believe that a life on benefits is a holiday, but I don't see what else they will achieve.

The simple fact (ignored throughout this thread) is that there is a massive gap between those needing work and the work available. Even if this scheme gets some people (5% - 10%?) into work, which I don't believe it will, that would only push an equivalent number of other people into unemployment. There are only so many jobs out there!

Will it save money? Not likely. It will be a nightmare to administer and is likely to actually increase the overall benefit bill. For example... If someone fails to satisfy the demands of this scheme and looses their entitlement to benefit, what happens to any children or other dependants? Taken into care...expensive, left to starve or beg like their carer? Despite the tone of some of the posts on here, I don't believe we have sunk so low as to accept inocent children starving on our streets.

This policy has no other purpose than to pander to the ill informed tabloid Tory vote. Quite an effective and astute political move in the short term. But in the long term another nail in the coffin of a system who's only purpose is to exploit the workers to the maximum in order to maintain the privilege of a few. This will only change when all workers realise that they share a common interest in replacing our elitist political masters. I regret any suffering and stress that these immoral and ineffective policies will bring. But I welcome the fact that they will serve to further open peoples eyes and promote radicalism among millions of people who must eventually stand and fight back.

Bring it on!
