Lightest steel retro frame set

My White EWR frame weighs about 37lbs...not too bad.

Seriously...weight is a misleading measure. You can have a 3lb frame that can be too whippy and flexy to feel fast, and you can have a stiff and efficient frame with decent weight that has geometry that makes it ride like a bus. Weight isn't your enemy (within reason) Weight in the wrong place is what makes a bike ride like crap.

just weighed a Fuji frame from 1995 - 17" and 4.7 lbs

I can agree with that , frames can be light and feel "dead," I suppose getting the angles right is what makes a good frame builder good .

As anyone here heard of mass centralisation ?

Could it be that gearbox bikes are the way to go ?

Well, that and Kooka components.[/quote]

So youve had them break , crack , strip , snap and explode too hve ya ?

Not just me then

pretty sure the Parkpre I had was very light - that was Ultralight I think. Rekiborter has it now. Metal felt VERY thin

Does it say what type of tubing (eg AVR, OX, OXII, TT Lite)?

Ritchey P21/P20?
P20 18" 3lb 6oz from memory, lighter than the S Works M2 of the same era  Thats Dedaccai tubing.
It does flex, you can almost feel the front turn in, then the back during hard cornering, but it never detracts from the ride.

1994 Parkpre Team 925 19" - Tange Ultimate Ultralight MTB. Dam light as Ed said. Never got round to weighing the frame but it is under 4lb. Parkpre did an even lighter one, the Pro 825, Easy Rider has the national collection of these.

My Stumpjumper 1997 Presitige 18" frame weighs 4.375 lbs/1995 gr. with a thin coat of paint.

I remember the Brodie Sovereign frames from around '96 being claimed to weigh around 1650 grams, but that was probably a 14" size, helium filled and no paint...

I remember seeing some silly light weights for Aermet steel frames - but when you sniff about for information on them now all you read about are breakages

Where Breezer Lightning frames not sub 4lbs?
