Lightest steel retro frame set

90's Breezer steel frames weighed between 1680-1800 grams (3.7-3.9 pounds), depending on size.

I think this is slightly optimistic. Pretty sure the D fusion tubed frames, introduced in '97 were the lightest steel Breezers -my 19" weighs just over 4lbs, and my 18 inch Storm is a bit heavier.

I called Joe Breeze about those frame weights, and you are correct, the D'Fusion tubesets were the lightest and it was for those frames that I quoted the weights. However, the earlier frames weren't really very much heavier.

Another thing worth mentioning is the Breezer rigid fork -an essential part of the package IMO. The Lightning fork weighs in at 780g which seems fairly light for a 415mm jobbie with 180mm steerer..

Anyone got the weight of a 18" 1997 Kona Cindercone?

Im having a few dents filled (with brass) on mine and disk mounts added. I estimate about 1950g once painted. Which brings me to another question: What is lighter, Powdercoat or wet paint?

Based on my estimated frame weight I have filled in a spreadsheet with the weights of all my components and got a predicted weight of 22.3lb's. Thats with disk brakes and a Rockshox SID fork.

1997 Cindercone/Lavadome (same frame) 18" claimed weight is 4.5lb (ref: their site in 1997 ;))
Disc mounts will add quite a few .x lb, fillings probably some more..

From posts in some which paint is best, powder coating is ~100g (0.22 lb) heavier then wet paint, though that will depend on thickness and finish.

so 2100 to 2200 g for the frame in the end

My 1997 Kona Explosif and my 1991 Rocky Mountain Altitude, both 20", are both 4.6lb

Which feels quite light but I know the Altitudes became a lot lighter in the following years, for 18.5": 1993 = 1770g, 1994 = 1750 g (claimed weights)

Bit more than I expected. Means the bike should still come in under 23lb so Im happy with that.

It varies, but Powdercoat is usually heavier than liquid paint, I understand by c50g average. However Windridge Coatings say their average is 120g, which is much the same as enamel

I believe the actual weight of the Cinder Cone frame for which Kona claimed 4.5 was 4.8lbs for a size 18. BS aside, this is a perfectly reasonable weight for a non-heat-treated db 4130 frame.

Those weights are getting down towards the road frame area!

Was D'Fusion a variant of Tange Prestige like Ritchey Logic Pat?
