Klein Attitude 1990 Build

Re:

Found the same information on the Web. Badges appeared around 1993 and sometimes as a additional extra slightly before for Europe sold bikes. Frame came from Spain according to Ash but I expect this badge was added on. To be honest didn't really notice it was there or shouldn't be there. The question is do I leave it or attempt to remove! I assume it's just some kind of adhesive like a double sided sticky pad. Worried about damaging the paint though.

Re:

Ok to recon the chain, first of all it is currently standing in a bottle of engine degreaser. I have done a general check of the chain already apart from it being extremely dirty it wasn’t rusty and the links don’t seem to have much play at all. Once the chain has been in the degreaser for around a week I will be washing the chain in a parts washer, after that I will again check the general condition before buffing each sliver link to get it looking like new. The chain will then be sat in thick oil for a few days before the final clean. To be honest this is a lot of work for just a chain but as I said being in the classic car scene restoring parts is the norm! I will upload pictures when it is finished.

Re: update

After many weeks finding parts etc i now have everything to build. I have change my mind on a couple of things along the way but tried to keep the build close to original spec as possible. So parts/spec are manly from the 1990/91 era
Shimano XT m730 chainset with black chainrings
Shimano XT m730 rear mech
Shimano XtR M900 Front Mech
Shimano XT M730 hubs on specialized black BX23 rims
Shimono XT ST M091 shifters
Shimono XT wheel QR's
Shimano XTR seat QR (NOS)
Shimano XT 12-28 cassette
Shimano XT PD-M735 pedals
Shimano XT M730 Seat Post (NOS)
Shimano HG91 chain (NOS)
Shimano XT m730 black cantilever brakes
Selle italia turbo saddle (NOS)
Panaracer Smoke and Dart tyres (New)
Specialized bottle cage
Klein Grips (NOS)
BBB brake and gear cables

I will now build slowly making sure everything is setup correctly. Plan to take my time doing this.

At the moment still have specialized ground control tyres on the bike 1.95mm which may or may not stay on.

Will also keep my eye on campag rims, "if i see any for sale" just to add a bit more originality.
overall pleased with what I have. All parts are in excellent condition, so will almost look as good as new when it is finished.
Anyway a few pictures

Re:

###Update###
Bike is now nearly built. Still have to fit BBB gear and brake cables, setup gears, fit chain etc. During general testing of the gear shifters noticed the left shifter wasn't holding the 3rd shift for the upper chainring. Knowing back in the day when i repaired one of these shifters they are easy to dismantle but extremely difficult to put back together. Anyway opened it up and noticed that all the old grease had gone hard. So after a full can of WD40 and a grease using a white grease spray all was working again. For good measure followed the same process on the right shifter. Now they are working great. Very quiet and free moving.
Out of interest weighed the bike and came to 21.8lbs which was a surprise. I expect complete I am looking at a 24 / 25lbs bike which is not bad for a XL frame.
Anyway a few more pics

Re: finished!

Finally all finished. Taken the bike out for a quick ride and all is good. Still light in my opinion for a xl frame which is coming in at 24.6lbs.
Thought I would also put my day to day ride on one of the photos which is the final year of a klien attitude which was 2008. These bikes were mainly sold in Asia. Great picture of the first 1990 attitude and the last!!!!

Re:

Lovely Klein!
Like you say, for an xl size frame and the components fitted a sub-25lb bike is not bad at all.
These bikes do feel "light" to ride though, quite stiff, and the power transfer is great :D
