Klein Adroit Rainforest- ultralite inspired unicorn build

When they arrived I discovered they were more mismatched than originally thought.
They had odd brake blocks ( not a biggie as I would put new on anyway) they were different shades of black, one set had retention pins through the brass collar and 2 out of the 5 spring adjusters were carbon , blowing my plans for matched anodising out of the water!
So, plan B- strip them right down and have the arms re anodised in black and have a new spring adjuster machined up by L+M of Stardrive cranks fame.
I would then have a set of 4 adjusters that could also be anodised black (I gave up on green as no-one could do it in the vibrant shade I wanted)
When I called to see if the parts were ready from the anodiser, he said he couldn’t coat 2 of the arms as they bubbled up like crazy in the tank and they would have dissolved if allowed to continue!
This was confusing as they were previously anodised? In the end I had to paint them as close to the other pairs new finish as possible.

So here they are all ready with some Kool Stop Eagle claws and an SRP Ti pad holder set installed that saved a whopping 12 grammes!

Re:

Those have come out lovely I think.

Really enjoying the slow and steady perfectionism with this one.

And that you're forging your own path with regards to parts.

Titanium one key releases were a valentines present from the wife. The jewellery equivalent for men. They look bloody gorgeous I reckon! The cap is Ti too.

Crikey they're nice!

Re:

The Wheels.
Took a while to narrow down the hub choice from ‘vanilla’ XTR through Nuke Proof with the ever present risk of cracking to good ol’ reliable White Industries titanium. I very nearly pulled the trigger and had them anodised black but after I had mirror polished them, I had to reconsider as they looked so bling!
Black spokes and green nipples would then offset these well, especially against some black rims. These had to be campagnolo and radially laced in line with the ultralite theme. Really happy with the matching green label
Ringle holey Ti skewers were also an ultralite prerequisite and I felt green over black would work better.
I have some NOS blackwall Klein death grips to shod these with once I’ve trued them in the frame

Re:

The fuselage is back from Kleinspainted!
Jon has done a great job of refreshing the faded yellow- which oddly makes it green. Took the opportunity to weigh the bare fuselage and it came in at 3kg. Did some light fettling today whilst I am waiting for the clearcoat to harden like grease and tighten the water bottle bolts, clean and refit the CCD and the mission control.

Re:

Cockpit time.
I had ordered some Shogun shifter mounts from Germany but I am still waiting for them to arrive after a ridiculous amount of faff. This gave me time to reflect and I felt I’d be happier with some STX RC mounts in the end anyway.
These had to be drilled to align with the different location of the anti rotation pins on the XTR shifters and I then painted them black after another faff with my local anodiser who didn’t understand my request
I’m pretty pleased with the quite minimalist look with the SS5’s and I think the grips work?

Re:

I normally wouldn't comment on a Klein unless it has a backfire paintjob but that is rather tasty.
