Klein Adroit Rainforest- ultralite inspired unicorn build

White industries chainset

Well, the gold bolts definitely give it that XC Pro Ultralite look. Annoyingly, I.D double chainring bolts didn’t fit so I had to re-use the Cr-Mo nuts. And it appears that no-one makes 14mm long alloy inner bolts anymore?

This is going to look lovely.

And shiny.

Any tips on sourcing and then polishing up that WI crankset so nicely!?

I found the chainset on U.S eBay in good used condition. I then sanded out the deepest scratches before investing in a bench grinder polishing wheel set. There are some things that only a machine can do!
The rings were then all stripped and re- anodised.

Yeah, I have a feeling my hand sanding and polishing routine is about to get old real quickly...

I have never seen white industries rings. This crankset is amazing,...nice work!

The brakes:

I decided quite early on that I wanted something a little more exotic than XTR cantis. It seems there is a clear supply and demand issue with vintage cantilever brakes and they always command strong prices.
I nearly bought a complete bikes worth of NOS Onza HO’s in black, but veered away in the end as I thought they would look a little clunky for this build and I was concerned about the many reports of them cracking.

During one of my daily searches, I came across a set of early Piranha Curve Racing Jaws. These were made in the days before they churned out mass produced versions for Kona OE.
I liked the Grafton-esque appearance of them and thought the mismatched set had potential.
