KK, Ku & Hot frame weights

Can anyone explain how a Ti, Alloy and steel frame can all weigh the same?

Surely the Hot would be the heaviest?

I'll defer to the experts on these threads, but I'm pretty sure the weights cited in the catalogue were approximate or theoretical. For one thing, they would change according to size. Perhaps what Kona was going for was a focus on the different ride qualities of each material, rather than the out-and-out weight.

I am sceptical of 3.3lb for the HOT - that's less than 1.5kg which would be insanely light for a steel frame.

That’s a very good point about frame size, I assume these quoted weights would be medium.

Yeah I just can’t see it tbh, I’ve got a 97 Kula and a 97 KK and a 93 Explosif and the Kula is without doubt the lightest

My 853 98 Explosif was heavier than my 97 Hei Hei, both 20 inch. I know that because I weighed them but It was so long ago I can't remember the weight difference. Half a pound maybe

That’s exactly the sort of range I would expect and if you look at other cat (96 maybe) that’s around what’s quoted!

I would weigh mine but I can’t be bothered to strip them just to weigh them tbh

I don’t own a Hot.

But my 94 psyclone is lighter than my 94 Hei Hei in the same size. Both using M900 , rigid etc

I should of weighed the frame but I always forget

As mentioned, these would have been estimates based off previous years or fingers in the air...with a little reality. This is the UK/Europe mid-season mailout as well, not the "official" catalogue either so it's reasonable to factor in human (typo) error. We are looking at information that's over 20 years old!

We're talking about 3 different materials, 3 different manufacturers and 3 different tube-sets...it's perfectly logical all would weigh the same
