Really?? It's available for photo shoots lol, on the tour de france route? from tour of britain over quarter of a century ago to the tour de france today. I live not far from Eastwood where Raleigh offices are/was/?? lol

On a serious note, I test rode it today with the new fangled wobbly brake/shifter thingy's, bloomin 'ell what a difference they make to the ride, soooo much better than the downtube suicide shifters. I do use this Raleigh so modernizing it suits me better than in its original guise, living on the edge of the peak district it's a little on the steep hilly side, I couldn't manage the hills on the original 42/24 bottom gearing . I have to say it was a real pleasure to ride, I haven't ridden a modern racer to compare it with but I'm well happy with it :mrgreen:

Today's 23.5 mile "Test ride" involved five cat 4 climbs and one cat 3 climb, I was running 30/42/52 & 11/30 8sp cassette, not bad for the world's most unlikely looking cyclist lol

Oh on a another note, I got a Kellogg's Frosties jersey in spirit of the bike

How did you get on with the RKPT memorabilia photos at your LBS, Sorry for hijacking your thread by the way

Got it from Chain Reaction Cycles, they also do a Kellogg's Corn Flakes version as well.

Sat stewing on the new gear change set up, it does work but I was not entirely satisfied with the front shifting, on the bike stand (peice of string hooked up onto a book shelf and under the seat lol) the front shifting (paired with claris front mech as recommended to match the brake/shifters was not as smooth as it was on the friction shift (paired with deore front mech) although when riding it did change faultlessly although it was playing on my mind it may eventually snap the chain being a tight shift going up the rings. The deore mech did not have the correct swing ratio to match the new lever set so was unable to use it. So back in the man cave this morning :idea: . A while back I ordered a couple of Tiagra front mechs (triple had wrong clamp size and the double right clamp size but needed triple :? ), I stripped both these Tiagra mechs to make a correct one, fitted it to the bike and kerching perfect shifting :mrgreen: granted the claris is budget end but supposedly "the right" mech, was I expecting too much from a budget mech? probably

I put a 105 front mech on and will look for a 105 chains et and rear mech from the era for mine, although a recent raleigh burner purchase is eating my wallet at the mo but hopefully by selling my new road bike I can afford to do both (genesis equilibrium 725 reynolds full 6500 ultegra for sale 600 ono)

how do find the standard gearing chute55uk, 42/24 bottom gear, you need legs like arnold schwarzenegger to peddle those gears where I live or have I been spoilt with riding mtb's the last 15yrs with 22/34 bottom gear, looks like the mtb has turned me into a wimp lol

I'm guessing the latter, the gearing is fine but I live in a relatively flat area compared to you also I've been doing a 40 mile commute on everything from full sus downhill era to lightweight road bikes so instead of pushing the gears I just ride slower I'm no strava fiend and I don't care who goes past me lol but yea 42/52 with a 6 speed screw on is just about right I reckon

I do use strava but like you I tootle alongl and don't care who comes past me, I've yet yet to overtake anyone on a bike under the age of 80 lol, I don't mind the hills or how short or long the ride who comes past me, but I like to do it at my own pace however slow and I do enjoy it even if the snails overtake me :mrgreen:
