it's postage... AND PACKING!!!

I suspect there's a strong connection between the two reasons anyway - a lot of people are scared that if they re-use or recycle too many things, they'll be seen as skint, and therefore throw away and buy new for the sake of their image (at least, that's how it works with cars and clothes). Re-using is the common-sense option, and the vast majority of common-sense options are also eco-friendly to boot.

I would argue the cars and clothes bit. I just got a new car recently to replace my 15 yr old one - i don't see that as image related. Clothes - the last shoes i bought were to replace a pair which were 12 years old and they had seen their day.

I must say my wife does complain about my car and my clothes amongst other things!!!

Thinking about PACKAGING!

Purchased a sticker off ebay not so long ago and the 'letter' the sticker arrived
in was a folded A4 sheet of white paper with brown sticky tape on the edges
and the top was sealed this was too! I did complain because the p&p charge
was £1.50p and it was sent 2nd class, this listing said 1st class..ARSE!

Yes, I did make a sweeping generalisation there, but I still think the vast majority of people wouldn't wait until their gear had worn out before buying new stuff - top marks for wringing 12 years out of your shoes though! :)

Embarking on a tangent vaguely towards Topic - shop packaging has been irritating the hell out of me recently. Why exactly does an inch-square car air freshener need 4 seperate pieces of plastic and cardboard bulking it out to around 8 times the size, when a simple blister pack would do? And don't get me started on individually-packed razor blades, which I'm unable to extricate without lacerating my hands on the packet.

Wavering on topic -

Packaging in all shops annoys me - whether blister packs or cardboard. I find that a lot of stuff is over-packaged - especially children's toys. I would rather have the price reduced and less packaging - and i am not being 'tight'.

Re the shoes, i suspect i have a couple of pairs over 10 years old - i like to keep the local cobbler busy!

16 days since this thread was started and the original author has still failed to reply to every one's else's replie's :| and as for re-using packaging well i don't see that as being tight just recycling which has got to be a good thing imo :) ..

Re:

Bought a parcel tape gun from Tesco today for £2.
It even came with a free roll of tape which they charge £2 for anyway!
