Its not for me...

I'm a slag. I like old bikes, new bikes, short rides, long rides, squeeling canti's or razor sharp discs, moorland epics, cheeky trails or trail centres.

What IS important is who you ride with and Retrobikers are always the best. Different strokes with the right folks ;)

Bang on Dr. I ride the same now as I did bitd. If the trail centres were about in 1993 I'd have riden them on my Clockwork. I'm lucky because I have all types of ride on my door step :D

I couldn't be without my 5, love trail centres, and berms make me smile. Saying that you could replace those three with 'retro Clockwork', 'open moorland' and 'picking a line'.

Bikes that can't go up hill scare me though.

I suppose that I've turned my back on all the marketing stuff in that I'm not overly influenced by the latest trends and I don't buy any bike mags. now either.
I'm just an old guy who rides a steel framed, rigid singlespeed. A nice one, mind, (well I think so...) but still about as basic as it gets.
I think I've said before that I spend more money on riding gear (shoes, boots, shorts, jackets) than on bike bling.

I was reading through this thread again and realised that I come across as a joyless old fart of a singlespeed rider (and probably one with a f*cking beard too..).
I'm all of those things of course ;) but if I was 25 years younger I'd probably be ragging around on something with 6" of travel at both ends and taking the piss out of old bastards like me. I'd like to own one now, but I couldn't, at my age, do something like that justice - I'd never be hucking the thing more than 3 feet to flat, never getting more than a few feet of air off a jump, and I can do that on what I ride now (and, if the truth be known, probably better  ).

I'm happy to ride my hard tail, no full sus rig for me. I'm into social riding with my mates sometimes we ride hard other times we don't but we always enjoy. I can't be arsed with people that take it all to serious it's all about pleasure IMO :)

Well Said! :D

Aye, riding is what it's about for me. And obsessing about it more than doing it.

Like we all say if we were 15 years younger etc...

But tbh I reckon I'd just be the same, I don't think it is necessarily an age thing.

Thanks for resurrecting LGF, good read. I kind of want to try a full susser, but to be honest, they scare me a little. I like to feel the bumps and lumps on a rigid, or hardtail. I know how the bike will react, and have developed my style of riding accordingly. I don't know how a full susser will react, as I've never ridden one, and it gives me the fear.

Just ridden Devon coast to coast with my mate on rigid Diamond Backs, and were held up with guys on full sussers on single track technical descents, as they couldn't hack it, blew them away on the uphill section, and didn't see them again.

I've only recently heard of trail centers, and my mates want me to go, but I've always been one to make my own, or follow mates on trails, using the natural, and sometime incidental man made, obstacles along the way. Not sure it will be fun at a purpose built track. Did BMX track racing, and that was fun, but that's what that sport was for.
