Its not for me...

I'm a slag. I like old bikes, new bikes, short rides, long rides, squeeling canti's or razor sharp discs, moorland epics, cheeky trails or trail centres.

What IS important is who you ride with and Retrobikers are always the best. Different strokes with the right folks ;)

Cliché flash blur, that's what's wrong with it.

The bicycle jurno has either read an article about it in a photographic rag (just like the MTB ones but with cameras and pegamixel envy instead of suspension travel envy) either that or they've just covered that particular module in his city and guilds evening course.

Anyone who just rides at trail centres is MISSING THE POINT. Mountain bikes should be a tool to help you get away from human's development of the countryside... not cause more of it!

Agree with everything LGF said.

^^ What they said ^^

I'm with you on that one
In that case I move my status from freak to slag, just like you :D
I've done the 8 hour epic rides and served my time through fields and over stiles, really enjoyed them,
But I'm more in favour of the likes of Coed Llandegla or Gisburn forest now
I'm not covering counties doing the rides, but I can still be out for a few hours and it's so much fun, it's like all my favourite parts of my old rides stuck together without all the slightly more mundane bits in-between

It's all about knowing your 1st curtain sync from your 2nd curtain sync... ;)

yep, i'm slutty old slag aswel!!

just come back from 3 days in wales at the trail centres. as much as i agree with the Lord LGF regarding his first post i do see it a little differently, maybe because of where i live. the New forest is nice to ride in . . . and that's it! NICE. hardly any hills, nothing technical, and mostly gravel tracks. :( if it wasn't for the various trail centres in the country i would struggle to ride in different places without getting lost. the major bonus of them for me is being able to go somewhere ride for as long as i want without having to stop and constantly check a map coz i don't where i am and then come back to the van after washing the bike at the bike wash provided, get a shower and have some much needed apres ride munchies! :D

having said that i also love meeting up with you guys at various rides because:-

1. someone leeds the ride so no one gets lost, hopefully!

2. we always have a laugh

3. the bike chat

4. it's somewhere different

but back on topic regarding LGF's point, at coed y brenin the last 2 days i was riding my modern ST4 (4" travel) and my mate Adam was riding my 07 clockwork, we rode in normal XC clothing, meaning, baggy shorts, riding tops and gillets with normal helmets and gloves to suit the temperature. but almost everyone else we saw were riding 6" bikes and wearing shin pads, elbow pads and full on helmets like the solid BMX style helmets or the freeride style semi full face helmets. OVERKILL!! we don't know the trails that well and we ride easy stuff down here for practice, these guys were trail centre regulars and we were blowing them out on the downhills!! to us it was comical!!

have to say though this weekend was awesome ride wise we had so much fun, afan on friday, coed y brenin on sat/sun, curries both nights aswel as a few beers! and only a week after the real ale wobble aswel!! it has been a fun couple of weeks!! :D :D

But didn't stick around long enough for the bit about second curtain flash sync... :)

I'm a bit like DrS. The "who" is more important than the "what", though sometimes the who is just me. The regular mob who i ride with are mainly on modern stuff, nearest I get is my '02 Sub5Pro, not retro, but hardly modern. Had to explain why I mainly rode my '98 Kila, when I had the Sub in the garage.

this thread needs pics of Old Scrotes on rigid bikes in open country.................sorta like this:
