Wifey bought me this GT Zaskar Race toady :xmas-cool: ... fairly minted in terms components, looks like some one has put it together at some point. I'm just wondering if it really is a Zaskar race . Rear of frame has a flat , rather than rounded GT plate. Serial number is 1008050317, stamped on the frame under the bottom bracket. Frame tube that goes from bottom bracket up to headset has 700 Custo stamped on it .. suspect this is 7005 Custom, but latter digits obscured by weld. Anyone any good at deciphering the serial number ?. The number quoted doesn't appear to fit with any of the forum posts on Zaskar frame numbers

Granted my experience of Zaskars peters out around 96, but those stays and dropouts don't look anything like any Zaskar I've ever seen.
Did the Zaskar get downgraded after GT imploded?

mine I think clearly uses 7005 tubing, although other forum posts say the Race does use 7005. So still wondering if anyone can disentangle the serial number ?

as mentioned above, it;s very much post 1997, it's like a 2000 or 2001 either just before or just after they shifter manufacturing to tawain.
That style dropout came in for the zskar le in like 98 and then n regular zaskar in like 99 (or 97 and 98 whatevr).
Would have been speced with v-brakes, but came with the tabs like so many frames of the day.

there was always a debate about what these were made of , the first Asian built zaskars , about a lb lighter than previous US built models , pretty shure mines an Easton vari-lite tubed bike ( I need to dig it out from storage )
and 2000 MY rings a bell ( serial no should comfirm )
if you strip it ,weigh it , iirc they're about 2.8 lb scary light
with the right build , sids xt/xtr etc they fly

well vari-lite is 7005... when they switched from alcoa? tubing to easton it was still 6061 which seems weird, but I guess easton made a bunch of tubes and thats when they started the butting and shaping? I think they started that before easton stuff... but once they get to 2000 things get real hazy on hats what...stopped the ball burninshing, just pained frames...anything is possible
