Is there a retro full sus bike which can still cut it?

Does this fit the bill ?, Never had a full sus before but picked this up on the bay last week, could not resist with the XTR groupset and Fred Salmon wheels , Marzocchi DH3 forks etc

Its pretty light considering. Feels a bit strange to ride with me being of the rigid breed......

Need to give it a service and clean before I take it on a proper rip

When were they first introduced?

I had a blue & white B17 which was fantastic, just too heavy as an all rounder. The Mount Vision would have been a much better bet.

I've got a '94 DBR dual response (as well) which I have owned since 1996, I also have an '06 Kona Dawg with 5" travel.
I ride both off-road often and sometimes struggle with which bike to choose before I go out; the DBR is a good 5lbs lighter than the Kona and sprints really well, but for mighty impressive downhill blasting the Kona wins hands down, it will get you out of sticky situations and compensate for lack of skill whereas the DBR will make you eat trees and dirt ;)
But... if I had to sell one it would be the Kona, go figure!??
