Agreed, but he has only recently started doing these and has planned more, maybe if his sales increase down south it will help fund developments further north.

I've started to do the sort of thing you are refering to by logging routes cycled with a GPS (I know it is hardly retro!) and building a dynamic map using the Ordnance Survey's application developerment kit.
Examples - only for the NE of Scotland so far include....

I'm still getting to grips with the programming but I believe you can add labels (e.g Start / Finish, deep ford, drop off etc), icons (to signify anything you like - viewpoints, points of caution) and insert pop-up boxes for images within the application. I just need to spend a bit of time playing around with these.
As you say, the beauty of using OS mapping over say Google Maps is that you get the topological detail that most bikers would appreciate. I also need to get out and do more rides to start fleshing out the database and put some descriptions up to go along with the map files.

Don't want to be a killjoy and I fully accept I'm of the old skool Pioneering breed! But I can't help but think that finding your own trails and routes is 70 percent of the pleasure! Following the rest of the herd/flock just reduces the enjoyment and results in crowded trails and more erosion of our crowded Isle.
I prefer to be as far away from the crowd as possible, thats the big appeal to me and I know this goes for a lot of other riders, so you may find your running down a blind alley Dude?
