Out of curiosity, what gear setup are you running with a short cadge xtr rear mech? Want to see if I can live with a short cadge. Thanks :)
 
I always use short cage rear mech's if I can. A simple 11-28 rear cass will do, even with the triple front. Keeps the chain nice and tight too...

As for the new bike... It's something else in 853, not boutique by any means and used to be called Ridgeback (shock horror) :oops:

xtr's are not short cage they're medium. it might work with your setup.

Many thanks for info. I spotted a thread that was posted some time ago on rb all about cage's vs. number of teeth for SRAM and Shimano rear mech's. Have to find it again and read up.
