When ever i get a frame with either a seatpost or B/B included with the frame they end up being a complete pain in the arse !! they are always there for good reason , i.e they are stuck in good and proper !! My latest one is an orange Airo that i got which i was going to build into a winter hack bike , firstly the cranks threaded which i just about got of then the B/B is siezed also the seatpost . with an inspection of the seatpost noticed that it was now a squarish shape so obviously been in a clamp of some sort . this i tried myself no luck so then drilled a hole through the post filled the seat tube with plusgas and put a metal bar though to try and lever it out stil won't budge until the thing just shears through and snaps so not much post left . now i lose patience and cut the thing down to try and push the post down but this ended up being a big mistake . now i haven't got a clue what to do ? anyone else had nightmare experiences like this ?

several times... a good lesson to us all to ask seller the reason for the BB / post etc. being there beforehand - as at least if you have it on an email within eBay you then have right to demand refund

Maybe I'm synical....but if the post or BB and cranks are included I assume the seller can't get them off........it's not because they are generous

thats how i'm thinking now so i won't be doing it again !!

I had a stuck seatpost in a marin I am sorting. I just put a seat on the stuck post and stood on it and pulled the frame for the floor. That is about as big a force as I could manage (and better then using a frame in my opintion) and after half an hour of intense labour it freed up after a big bang. Greased up and both the post and frame are undamaged.

Now you have cut it down the only option I think you would have would be to get a hacksaw blade and cut the seatpost from the inside, obviously this will take an age and you have to be careful not to go bananas and cut into the frame.

I read about this on Sheldon Brown's website: not tried it myself so not sure if this is feasible or not? It's the last tip on his list:

His link is here:

I've been down the hacksaw/seatpost route , when I bought my P7 the alloy shim was corroded to the seat tube and the seatpost to the shim.
I ended up snapping the seatpost in the frame leaving a 1.5" stub stuck out of the frame.

I wound a load of electrical tape round the top of a hacksaw blade to form a grip and made 4 cuts(quarters) in the post , go really slowly at it trying to keep the cut level to minimise the risk of sawing the frame , when you're most of the way through get a pair of molegrips and attempt to peel the seatpost sections away from the inside of the seat tube then get some releasing agent down the gap.

I took 5 days to take mine out but I only did about an hour or so a day , but slowly does it!!!

I now have a thermoplastic shim in there so I don't have to go through it again.

As an aside, my cousin's just built up an AirO from the 'Bay and it's superb (seatpost and bb were included and came out no problem...). Don't give up, it'll be a pimp little bike!

I think this is why my 'new' FSR is coming with a 'free' BB and cranks, assuming the seller's not got them out since he took the picture for eBay. Will find out when I've picked it up I suppose...
