Hi all,
I have just removed this BB axle from a Dave Yates Steel frame, I would think late 80s.
I was struck by the complete lack of corrosion, and the fact it's hollow.
Is this a Titanium axle?
Any help gratefully received
There are two types of SR axle, the hollow one that looks similar to yours albeit greyer and with a pronounced ring behind the races, and a later one with integrated threads for crank nuts (rather than bolts) after some high-profile failure of the first version. They are both asymetric in line with Campy NR/SR chainsets of the time. Yours looks like a symetric one, probably Chorus or CDA, also a few mms narrower overall @ 111 mm.
