Whyte e120 rear axle help

Here's what the wheels look like. Not sure what the extra bolt and spacer is all about.

Looks like a security torx bolt. Common on anti theft axles. My guess is the original axle broke and someone replaced it with whatever they had lying around. The spacer is probably just to take up the slack.

I'll remove it and work out what's what.

How hard will it be to find a replacement do we think?

Just buy some m5 threaded rod and cut to size.
Edit: stainless steel, so it won’t go rusty.

I've got the axle out. The large cylinder of metal on one end was literally doing the job of a bolt and washer, no idea why. I've got to dig deeper, but the axle seems fine. The bolt on the other end is a bit rounded so I'll need to get that off and replace as well as find one and a washer for the other end.

Next challenge is go get the adapters off each end of the hub. Any idea how? They aren't coming off with gentle persuasion by hand, but as these are hope hubs, there is no thread on the qr stubs so they should just pull off right? I want to get them off, as one isn't quite sat flush and has a slight wobble, and also to check the bearings and freehub and service/replace before rebuilding and fitting to the frame.

I want to just tell you to use more persuasion but not be responsible for you breaking it😊
I know mine just came off, they’re a tight fit and there is often a small amount of corrosion between the bobbins and the axle, but there really should be nothing other than a very tight fit holding them on.

what he said. I'd be tempted to cobble some sort of puller together.

One down. The other is being very stubborn. Will try tomorrow to free the blighter.
