i just wanted ask . . . is it me? or . . .

Come on guys, we don’t want this to turn into the “practical explanation of life” spam thread…

Just carry on with your day and don’t let it phase you👍
every single day, in every single way, it grinds me.

I thought agent Smith was crackers when the Matrix first came out, but these days.......

Social interaction is now retro, time for a forum haha. I'm with you buddy, at least in the woods or on the trails the trees dont whine, the birds still sing and the only buzz I like to hear is the hope freewheel. I dont tend to go out for meals or drinks anymore, too many arseholes and the cinema doesnt show owt good anymore. Some people I like though, but much like you I cant be arsed with other issues, got my hands full worrying about my own.

It's not just you John. As I've aged I've moved closer and closer to the town of Misanthrope. Ideal population: me, just me. Everyone else can do one

hmm . . . sort of 50/50 then, it's not that i hate everyone, i think that i end up seeing more of the crap for some reason, i spot the idiots ahead of time, you put me in a room with 30 people and i'll spot the problem person pretty damn quickly, i wonder if it comes from being in retail, you become better at reading people and their behavior, so spotting the time wasters, numpties etc becomes a way of life.

@jonnyboy666 I suspect its a consequence of you probably being an introvert in a public facing job. Your social contact batteries are exhausted by your work.

Generally, as I've got older - I've grown to like people better. But the kind of hobbies I have and work I do means I meet a lot of cool people.

Environmental issues aside, most of the evidence suggests the world is getting better. Less violent, more peaceful, better living conditions, longer healthier lives etc. I'd rather live now than at any other point in human history.

I do think the 24 hour news cycle and social media/related technologies isn't great for our collective mental health so have largely opted out. Currently on a month long news media fast - and it's been fantastic.

I feel like Covid and/or social media have really accelerated this feeling of alienation, though at the same time it's always been an issue since we started living in communities bigger than about 10 huts, I reckon (industrialisation, the separation of people from the actual results of their labour, the breakdown of 'traditional' communities, etc, etc).

Speaking as a true introvert, people are still mostly decent if you actually get to know them, but it's also true we're really good at inventing things that actually make it harder for us to all get along, and we've not really evolved to deal with the life most of us find ourselves living.

But as much as I might moan about many things about the world these days - never mind vaping – remember when you couldn't go into any pub or bar without breathing in smoke and stinking of it when you got home? At least some things have got better.
