How new is retro?

Retro is, downtube shifters, toe clips, non-aero brakes these are the obvious visual clues, you can also add in quill stems and horizontal top tubes.

Clip pedals, A headsets, STIs are not retro.

It's not the date but the technology, there was a watershed in the late 80s where everything changed.

I've got bikes with DT shifters, brake cables and quill pedals which definitely are. I've also got a 95 steel frame with Recird Ti 9 speed from c1999... do I consider it retro? Absolutely yes! Even when I stick Speedpays on it. BITD, a good steel frame would outlast many iterations of components
