Mudguards are essential for bicycle transport (i.e. bike that actually gets used to move you and your stuff from place to place) and can be supercool on Randonneurs (Honjo).

But on a mountain bike it's a fine line. I've used old school laid back MTBs for bicycle transport and they can wear their 'guards with pride:




But if you slap up a, er, race-oriented offroader in the same way .... shocking: especially if suspension is involved. Go to the back of the class.

One of the joys of being nearer to 40 than 20 (or even 30 for that matter) is that I no longer have to care what anyone else thinks.

Hence my enthusiastic use of a full set of topeak defenders on my modern mtb. And I even use it off road :shock: :shock:

Keeps me cleaner, keeps the bike cleaner. Means I can spend more time riding it than cleaning it. Sounds like a win to me.

I know no shame! I had the pink version of these on my Pearl White cro-mega BITD and now I have NOS green ones today...

Mudguards and reflectors have no place on a bike. As a nod to not being killed a discreet rear LED is acceptable, just. Preferably worn on the person.

Someone mentioned Wolf Guards- were they the neon plastic things attached with a ball clamp to the seatpost? I had one of them bitd at the same sort of angle wee guys driving Corsas wear their caps at. I saw sense though.
