Definitely need to get the wheel off and clean it up. I can see it partially but it’s far from clear. Job for the weekend. No that is not serial - check left rear dropout - see pic of mine B (Feb) 9 (1949) 442

That is really nice, the fork detail is exquisite. In my opinion this can be brought back to a good standard with no need to repaint.I can’t read the serial number clearly. I think I would need to remove the wheel and haven’t got my tools handy right now. Here’s the full bike though.
Definitely going for new tyres, won’t get far on those.Check out my recent build if you haven’t seen it: https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/yellow-hobbs-winter-beater-of-distinction-wbod.488739/
Can’t see anything of concern with yours. Just looks like it needs a polish and bit of grease and some new tyres!
Super nice and a lovely story.I can’t read the serial number clearly. I think I would need to remove the wheel and haven’t got my tools handy right now. Here’s the full bike though.

Yes, the frame number on Hobbs’s’s is on the rear dropout and there’s a matching number on the steerer.-----
suspect the GR 23 marking on shell to be the stock number for the shell pattern from its maker

What is the serial number on it - should be on rear dropout, off side I think? Looks lovely - I think it has Championship lugs that started in 1951/52, so top of the range. Can you send a pic of the whole side of the bike, preferably drive side?
