Help please - Could anyone identify my Carlton frame ?

I recently acquired this Carlton frame, with a view to restoring it to its former glory but have been unable to identify which model it is, and what year it was built. One of the photos I´m posting shows the frame number, stamped on the rear, nearside drop-out, which I hope might help identify the year. It does have chromed head-lugs which - I think - are Nervex, and the seat-tube has, unfortunately, an unreadable transfer but there are no other clues to what type it might be so all attempts at helping me would be gratefully received. I can do with as much help as possible, in how to go about getting it transformed to its as close as possible original condition.

Although I am 75, I can still hold a spray-gun although it might shake a little and some of the paint might even hit the frame ! :D

As you can probably tell, I need as much help as any of you can possibly offer....and hope I don´t slip this mortal coil before turning the pedals on my Carlton-whatever-type-it-is.

Interesting! Looks to be 60s, the W prefix is throwing me though, although its seems now that letter were used sometime for a few years as opposed to a different one each year. I can't put my finger on those lugs though. About this time they were using cappella mostly... Does not look to be a high end frame so its not 531 tubing. A very nice frame set all the same and well worth refurbishing. As for model I would need a think. Just when you think you have Carlton sussed something comes up that goes against the usual thinking.

Yep, 60's Carlton :)

The problem you have in identity was that Carlton would modify catalogue frames at customer requests........."I'd like a Carlton Flyer please but with Capella lugs" and the like.

Stock frames were as catalogue if they had the correct bits in stock

Lugs look a bit "Oscar Egg" ish which Carlton used, Or somebody had a good go at the Lindrick Lug set LOL

I agree about the lugs! I have seen that headset lug used before I cant place it...

Thanks all for your replies. I have taken two more photos of the seat tube decoration, which I will add here soon as these might help find the identity of my Carlton frame, so hoping for your further help then, thanks again in the meantime.

I feel proud just to have given an answer to where Spokesmann couldn't!
Out to celebrate!!! :D :D

:p

Well done, it sometime knowing where you saw it and putting name to it. Carlton never stuck exclusively to the rules book when it came to lugs.
