the early climbmax's have non ovalized tube sets as well.
I don't think that characteristic can be used to tell models apart definitively.
you can bring frame over and compare it to mine any time.
checking serial number is the only sure way.

thanks Roy! I haven't had any time for it, I'm afraid. I currently have a bike in the stand and tinkering with it at the moment and swore not to get distracted before it's finished . There's also a few things ahead of it as well so it has been hung up with the rest of "one day" bikes.
I'm not too concerned about serial #'s but wish to confirm if it's a rigid or suspension front end. I know Paul, along with the number, is the best way and will donate to his racing fund one day for a clear answer. But in the meantime, by the way it stands against the wall with the shocks, it looks slightly raised and therefor guess that it's a rigid frame. Cooney, who probably welded it at Brodie, came onto Facebook and gave a great bit of info about it. Can you read this fb thread? Join the group while you're there, too! Coon thinks it an "old school Sovereign with Shimano drop outs and I'd have to say it was made for a gatorblade fork. .... that's my guess. If it was an early espresso , it would have larger diameter seat stays. These chain stays look like the lightweight tange .6mm stays."

A bit of an update. Today, I stripped the ole white Brodie down of it's rusted parts and got to the serial and it's B176 and Toxik has ID it as a 1990 or 91 Catalyst. I'll send some paypal beer money to Paul with the SN and get accurate info. It doesn't seem to be too rusted on the inside and will sandblast it and fill any dimples with silver soldier and get Toxik to do his magic.

If you go by the catalogues then both Climbmax and Catalyst (but no Sovereign) were available in 1990, that's from TBG anyway. I have a B series Sovereign and I would say your serial number puts it at 91......maybe

Fb is pretty cool sometimes. I post a pic of this Brodie and smae questions, and then some key guys that were working at Brodie, Toxik Harald, Chris Cooney, and Paul Brodie himself, all comment under my pic.
