GT's why the dislike ?

They all look the bleedin same. Except for the low end steel models, there's no colour to 'em, and they're made of monkey metal.
The honourable exception, of course, being the Psyclone. Wouldn't mind one of those at all!

I don't hate them but they also don't make me weak at the knees. Of the mass produced gear I'd have them somewhere in the middle as I prefer them to Trek or Kona but would have a Zolatone Marin or Orange (obviously) instead.

Only GT I really want is an original US built RTS. I'd also like to try a Zaskar as Kaya's looks ace and I wouldn't say no if someone gave me a Ti one. ;)

Well the above pic blows that statememt out the water, but could'nt the same be said of a lot of other makes ?

Pace look all the same to me, never got the appeal of those, been tempted to buy one to see what the fuss is about, though they seem to be rare in my size (16")

Each to their own.

It might drill a small hole just below the water line, but certainly doesn't "blow it out of the water"; after all, a third of the bikes in the pic are grey... This is , presumably, a line-up of GT nuts' favourite bikes, where you would expect to find rare and exotic examples of the marque.
The overwhelming majority of GTs are grey.,
Maybe there's more to it than colour bias? Maybe GT was seen as being a bit corporate, it's identity defined by the triple triangle, in a way that other manufacturers, rightly or wrongly, (eg Kona) were not.
Maybe it's just irrational. I rode a couple, BITD , and didn't think much of them. It took a long time to find a nicer ride than my trusty Kilauea, but then, that was set up exactly how I like it, other bikes were not.

kona went corporate way back in the day when joe moved on
it took gt till about 2000 to be sold off ,then only thru the loss of thier
financial head

I did say "rightly or wrongly"...

They were always an honest bike I reckon. BITD they were a decent steer, I picked up a mid 90's Outpost for practically nothing, and its like riding your first decent bike. Okay you wouldn't take it down the Alps, but for a fast bit of modest singletrack or a jolly jaunt down the local bike trails, its golden! I was going to punt it on but its grown on me and i couldn't bear to part with it now. I might even add some decent kit to it against all advice!
